Special Features of Ponsonby Intermediate

 Our School

Ponsonby Intermediate is far more than a school. It is a series of experiences and opportunities that will challenge, stimulate and enable all to achieve in an environment that fosters respect and support. We hope that everyone who becomes involved with Ponsonby Intermediate, whatever the context, will feel part of our community and the school structure at its heart.

The Arts

To develop the artistic and aesthetic dimensions of human experience.
To contribute to our intellectual ability and to our social, cultural and spiritual understanding.
They are an essential element of daily living and of life-long learning.

Technology

To develop independent, self motivated thinkers through practical experiences
that help students understand and create the world we live in.

Health and Physical Education

To foster positive attitudes and values, create healthy bodies and minds,
through motivation, participation and developing new skills.

SMART Targets

Our targets form an important element of our school plan in action. They
came from the values and policies we hold dear.
We set clear measurable SMART targets to improve school processes.

Time-related

We set our SMART targets each term. They are set according to general
observed needs. They are set at a staff meeting towards the end of a term.
e.g. ‘We will be supportive classmates and stamp out bullying’. The SMART
targets are published and are displayed in all classrooms and the staffroom.
The individual members of each class come to an agreement as to what the
indicators would be if the SMART target were to be successful. These
indicators are listed as a contract and are signed by all class members.

Careers

To develop students understanding of the qualifications and skills required
in certain careers.

Options

Each term children are able to choose one other subject that they would like to
take. This will be taken for 1 1/2 periods per week. This changes every term to
ensure that by the end of the year you will have taken four different Options
subjects.

Some examples of the various subjects include: Languages, Drama, Music,
Sports, Music, Design and Technology, Strategy Games, Arts and Crafts,
Horticulture and many more.
